Because it has 16 pads it fits the full drum rack without having to go into additional menus for them. The pads are on the smaller size and the way they're arranged isn't the best but you can definitely make it work. This makes it very easy to keep track of where what is and what it's doing. The drum pads are nice sensitivity wise and have RGB color coding for each track and features. The initial key sensitivity is a bit low so I had to crank that up to the max to make it work for me (I'm not heavy handed). It just feels very springy to me compared to a normal piano, but you get used to it. It's not weighted so they have to rely on spring resistance for that "heavy" feel.
Hook up a foot pedal and you can also trigger effects or record when playing a different instrument. It has made it very easy for me to record/play something in live compared to just having a mouse and keyboard. For me, a beginner, this is everything I need to start producing and playing live. I've been playing around with this keyboard for a few weeks now and I really like what it's capable of at its price point. Encoders are hard to see at night because they don't light up Small pads (not the best for fingerdrumming but do work No aftertouch on keys (pads have polyphonic aftertouch however) Have had some double tapping issues on the drumpads sometimes Comes in the "vegas" RGB mode stock which is really annoying No on/off button and no way to turn off the lights when idle Faders on this model compared to the 25/37 model which don't have them I will write out a short pros/cons and give a detailed review below that. Keep in mind that this is my first midi controller and I've only played guitar before this. So far have tested it with Ableton, and Reason, but use it more with Logic.I've had this midi keyboard for over a month now and have tried out many of its features and think I can give somewhat of a review now. Mine arrived in less than a week and I had to import mine from Amazon Japan. if you already have a full keyboard beside you, the Mini Mk3 might be nicer. The keys are also pretty good, although can be a bit no resistance compared to other midi keyboards which in comparison have harder midi keys. Since it's a mini midi keyboard, the keys also have flatter ranges (since all mini keys do), but good level velocity curves. But in sustained periods of time in dim light it can be an eyesore if in Custom Mode. Is more tolerable in session view, or when you have a desk lamp. The Mini Mk3s have good pads, but could be really bright. You're guaranteed to always move either one track down or up. Also note that changing MIDI Channels with the Mk2 can be a pain since you're always going to trigger the change track button, since they have the same mapping. I have to use MidiPipe to raise their velocities by about 30 to 40. Also note that the 61 Mk2 and 49 Mk2 one have low velocity curves for the keys. So I would rather use the keyboard instead since it's a bit unreliable. They're mushy and feel more like rubber buttons, it's the point it doesn't really register all my inputs when drumming. And I think the pads are the same for all the LK MK2 models. I'm not exactly sure about this model, but I have the 61 keys Mk2 one, and the pads aren't really responsive for drumming. My only concern about the Launchkey 25 are the pads.
